Missionary Chapel

Missionary Chapel is a unique church in the middle of Phoenix.  Because of our location, the mission field has come to us. We are both Missionary Chapel and Capilla Misionera. Our English-speaking congregation, Missionary Chapel, is mostly Native American, made up of eight or nine first nations peoples along with people from nearly every other ethnic group. Our Spanish-speaking congregation, Capilla Misionera, is made up of  five Latin American countries and in those countries are two indigenous people groups, Mam Indians from Guatemala and Mayans from Mexico.

The Ministry's History

In the early 50's, Kenneth and Lucille Mendenhall bought this building to begin serving the Native Americans. It was called, at that time, Indian Chapel. Its primary purpose was to reach the Native population. After many years, due to the changes in the area, it was renamed Missionary Chapel. This was to help so as not to exclude those of other races or ethnicities. In 2003, Pastors Ken and Brenda Kelley came to Phoenix.  There, they discovered that the population had changed even more.  That change was that 70% of the area was Hispanic and many did not speak English. That is how the daughter church Capilla Misionera came into existance.
